In partnership with Tameside 3rd Sector Coalition we are promoting The Mindful Employer scheme in Tameside.
Being a MINDFUL EMPLOYER…
·         Shows others and your own staff that you are a good employer
·         Expresses your corporate social responsibility
·         Reduces recruitment and training costs
·         Helps towards complying with legislation (e.g. DDA and HSE)
·         Reduces sickness levels
·         Enhances customer service
·         Improves productivity
·         Makes you more attractive to people with mental health issues and others
·         Helps you retain staff who have experienced discrimination in the past
·         Makes yours a healthier workplace
To introduce the scheme we are offering free one hour mental health awareness sessions to managers and supervisors in local businesses and organisations throughout the summer.
We also aspire to the setting up of a local employer network in collaboration with colleagues from industry and other organisations in order to continue the implementation of the scheme and provide locally based mutual support and further training.

The current exhibition at the Topaz Well-Being Centre is by local artist Val Hallsworth. Val has drawn and painted since she was five years old and has been exhibiting and selling paintings since 1995. She has done numerous commissioned works which have included landscapes, seascapes, portraits of children, adults and animals. Val enjoys painting in watercolours, acrylics, oils, pastels and mixed media.
A temporary loss of sight four years ago inspired Val to create tactile paintings for the blind and visually impaired. As a result, she was invited to give demonstrations and talks to the Tameside Blind Association, elderly and youth groups at Dukinfield Library and in Denton. Four of these tactile pictures are in this exhibition.
She has also given demonstrations and talks to various groups and conducted workshops for children and people with special needs.
Val is also Vice Chairman of the Tameside (Denton) Art Society and an active member of the Tameside Arts Network which has been set up to promote art in all dimensions in Tameside.
The exhibition is running at the Topaz Well-Being Centre from now until the 15 of June, so call in and have a look for yourself.
